Welcome to the Exploring the Connections weblog!
Exploring the Connections is a "reading and discussion" group at Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, Texas. Part of the Cathedral's adult education offerings at the 10:00 o'clock hour on Sunday mornings, we have been meeting since the summer of 2005. Our area of interest is exploring how the Gospel relates to issues of peace and justice, both here and around the world.
Books we have read and discussed include God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It (HarperSanFrancisco, 2005) by Jim Wallis, and Walter Wink's The Powers That Be (Gallilee Trade, 1999). During Lent this year, we heard a DVD-based series of lectures by John Dominic Crossan - Victory and Peace OR Justice and Peace? (livingthequestions.com, 2005).
The weblog serves several functions. Links to articles and news items of interest will be posted here, as will announcements of upcoming community events. Of particular interest among the latter are activities of the Bishop Hines chapter of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship (EPF) and The Metropolitan Organization (TMO). Members of the Exploring the Connections group are actively involved in both.
Finally, committed as we are to a style that is conversational rather than didactic, Exploring the Connections participants are encouraged to use the "comments" link at the bottom of each post to share with the rest of us your response to what is posted here. In this way way we keep the conversation going!
