PBS' NOW to profile Iran delegation
[National Council of Churches] The PBS news magazine, NOW, this weekend will feature a report on a delegation of religious leaders that visited Iran in February. Two Episcopalians, Maureen Shea, director of the Office of Government Relations, and Sister Ellen Francis, an Episcopal priest in the Order of Saint Helena, were members of that delegation.
"Can U.S. religious leaders make a difference in the standoff between America and Iran?" is how NOW's website previews the program. NOW producers and videographers accompanied the delegation which met with several of Iran's religious and government leaders, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and former President Mohammad Khatami.
The two Episcopalians were among a 13-member delegation of U.S. religious leaders from the Mennonite, Quaker, Roman Catholic, Baptist and United Methodist churches. They spent the week of February 19-25 in Tehran and the holy city of Qom.
